Our history

TsAndCs began in Gardens, Cape Town in 2013 with a practical goal: make essential website terms and compliance documents easier for South African businesses to manage. From a small team focused on plain language and local rules, the work has grown into policy packs, reviews and ongoing support for clients across the country.

Our history

2013: A practical start in Gardens

TsAndCs started in 2013 in Gardens, Cape Town, when Luyanda Mbeki began helping business owners who needed clear terms, privacy policies and supporting documents without spending weeks trying to piece everything together. The early work was shaped by real questions from small firms, consultants and online traders who wanted documents that were readable, relevant and fit for South African conditions.

From the outset, the focus was not on big language or long explanations. It was about getting the essentials right, keeping things understandable, and making sure clients had something they could actually use when they launched or updated a service.

2014 to 2016: Building a service around local business needs

As more enquiries came in from Cape Town CBD, Sea Point and Claremont, the business began refining its process. The team saw the same issues over and over: unclear refund terms, missing privacy notices, uncertain consent wording, and policies that did not reflect how South African customers actually book, pay or communicate.

Those years were spent turning one-off requests into a repeatable service. That meant setting up a cleaner way to gather business details, understanding different sectors and creating a process that could support both first-time operators and more established companies. It also meant learning how to balance legal accuracy with plain language, because people need documents they can understand on a Monday morning, not just after a meeting with lawyers.

  • Clearer intake questions for each business type
  • More practical document wording for everyday use
  • Support for ecommerce, booking and subscription models
  • Stronger alignment with South African compliance expectations

2017 to 2019: Expanding into policy packs and compliance checks

By 2017 the work had moved beyond simple drafting. Businesses wanted a fuller service that could deal with more than one document at a time, especially as POPIA readiness, consumer expectations and online selling became more important. TsAndCs responded by developing policy packs and review processes that helped clients see where gaps were hiding.

During this period, the service also became more useful for businesses in Stellenbosch, Bellville and Paarl, where owners often needed documents for both local operations and wider national customers. The aim was to help them launch with cleaner compliance foundations rather than patch things up later. It saved time, and in many cases helped avoid messy revisions after a site or service was already live.

  • Policy pack customisation for different business models
  • Privacy gap analysis to identify missing clauses
  • Launch readiness checks before public rollout
  • Support for platform terms and customer-facing notices

2020 to 2021: Helping businesses adapt under pressure

The early 2020s brought a different set of challenges. Businesses had to move faster, communicate more clearly online and handle changing customer expectations while keeping operations going. TsAndCs stepped up support for clients that needed updated terms, clearer privacy wording and documents that reflected new ways of selling, booking and delivering services.

It was also a period when many teams realised they needed compliance help that could be handled remotely, without losing the personal side of service. The process became more structured, but still flexible enough for a single-owner business in Cape Town CBD or a national operation working across multiple regions. The work was steady, practical and focused on keeping businesses moving.

2022 to 2023: A fuller compliance support team

As demand grew, the team expanded into a more specialised group. Anika Naidoo began leading compliance content, Sibusiso Dlamini took on customer success, Megan van Wyk managed operations, Thato Molefe supported product work and Kyle Petersen handled technical support. Each role added something useful, from document clarity to better turnaround times and smoother client communication.

That team structure meant clients could get help across the full process, from initial query to final review. It also allowed TsAndCs to support more businesses in coastal and inland markets, where conditions vary and practical concerns matter. For example, a company in Sea Point may need to think about online forms and customer data handling, while a business in Claremont may need service terms that reflect appointments, deposits or recurring billing.

  • Clearer division of compliance, content and support work
  • More responsive handling of client updates and revisions
  • Better support for ecommerce policy setup and booking site documents
  • Ongoing policy updates as business needs changed

2024 to today: Nationwide support from Cape Town

Today, TsAndCs works with businesses across South Africa through online policy packs and compliance support, while keeping its base in Gardens, Cape Town. The service now covers policy updates, PAIA support, POPIA alignment, subscription policy support, platform terms drafting and ongoing compliance help for businesses that need something practical and current.

The story from 2013 to now is steady rather than flashy. It is a story of listening to clients, improving the process and staying close to the details that matter: what a business sells, how it collects information, how customers pay and what needs to be made clear before a dispute starts. That approach has kept the work relevant across different industries and regions, from the Cape Town CBD to Paarl and beyond.

What has stayed the same is the standard. Documents should be clear, usable and suited to the business they support. That remains the core of TsAndCs, and it is still what clients come looking for today.
